Fishing

Fishing enthusiasts are urged to send photos of themselves and their Lake Shawnee catches for inclusion on this page. Please include pertinent details; such as species, size, approximate date, bait used, etc.

Go ahead and send photos from prior years too!

Fed by the waters of the upper reaches of Caesar's Creek, Lake Shawnee is a very clean and very fertile body of water for fishing. And the fishing is great year 'round!

The waters have been stocked many times over the years, with both baitfish and game fish. The lake boasts a healthy population of Largemouth Bass, Smallmouth Bass, Stripers, White Crappies, Black Crappies, Bluegills, Sunfish, Channel Catfish, Blue Catfish, Flathead Catfish, and big Carp. Anglers will also occasionally bag a Walleye, Perch, or Rock Bass. Bullhead Catfish and White Bass are not unknown. Shad and other baitfish are stocked regularly, and the big fish grow quickly.

There is a loosely organized bass fishermen's club at the lake that holds informal bass contests weekly (for community members only). Each season there are various tournaments for crappie, catfish, and sometimes carp, all with prizes.

A special treat each year is the kids' fishing tournament, which always results in lots of fish, a few prizes, and lots of smiles on the faces of kids and adults alike.
