On any lake with lots of different people engaged in lots of different activities, it is necessary to have a set of rules and regulations in place to avoid dangerous situations, and to provide maximum safe enjoyment for everyone.
At Lake Shawnee our bylaws are enforced primarily by our Lake Patrol. Each watercraft must display a current sticker to show it belongs to a current member of SHPOA, and the owner?s lot number must also be prominently displayed. This allows the Lake Patrol to readily identify watercraft that are involved in problems. As an additional protection, any SHPOA member may report any dangerous or illegal activity to the Lake Patrol or SHPOA board, by including the time, date, and the lot number of the watercraft in question. Then the Lake Patrol can look into the matter at a later date.
Our Lake Patrol personnel are trained to keep a low profile, and not bother people who are safely enjoying their lake. On the other hand, dangerous situations must be prevented or eliminated immediately, and this difficult thankless job is well handled by our Lake Patrol. If you see them on the lake, give them a smile and a wave of thanks. They are the reason our lake is safe and enjoyable for everyone to use.
NOTE: We are looking for individuals to assist with Lake Patrol operations every year?
