JUNK BOAT DERBY
A junk boat derby is a boat race between homemade boats made of “JUNK”!!! The race begins at 6:00 pm in ski area to the East of the beach.
If it floats long enough to start the race, it can be entered!!! A buoy will be anchored approximately 100ft. from shore. The first boat to go around the buoy and return to shore with the team on board will be the winner. Hopefully at least 1 boat will survive long enough to make it!! All construction materials must be from rescued or reused products from the garage, shed, dumpster or wherever else your imagination takes you. (Plastic bottles, foam, and wood is a good place to start.) Only paint or bonding materials such as glue, tape, rope, nails, staples, or screws may be purchased for your project. No boats will be allowed if the construction materials could harm or be hazardous to the lake. No electric, gas, or steam motors!! Wind and paddles can be used. There is no limit to how many participants can be on board, but 1 must be a SHPOA member in good standing. All boats must have a name displayed and be visible to the judges. Lake Patrol will be on duty during the race. However, boats officially entered will not need a current SHPOA boat sticker.
